That's the question.
I really want to have chickens. Just 4 or 5 (nothing too crazy like some people I know who own the handsome hens above.) ;) I think they'd be a wonderful experience for Nia, they'd provide high-quality nutritious eggs to our family, and they'd consume our kitchen waste (which, with 4 adults and 1 kid in a household, is substantial).
But.
Is our yard appropriate for chickens? Can we provide enough sunshine under our giant Oak? Can we keep the very motivated neighborhood raccoons from devouring our flock?
The very nice people at MyUrbanFarm.net are helping us with these questions. Phil and Pam came across one of their gorgeous coops in Woodside and Pam began a corespondance with them. We are eyeing their Los Gatitos coop. I shot the following little video for them so they could help us know if our yard is appropriate for chickens. They have been VERY nice so far in our brainstorming and their coops look great! (Fingers crossed!)
Really, though. Shouldn't every child have this? (Thanks, Whitney!)
