A little over a week ago we brought a piano home. I'm so excited about this. No, I don't play. Joe doesn't either. Nor does Nia, for that matter. But I just feel so good having it here and know that we'll (and by that I mean, Nia) will play. Maybe a lot, maybe a little. But it seems like a very good thing to have available for creative, musical endeavors, which are happening all the time in our house these days. And the price was right. I found it on Craigslist and got it from a nearby school that was strapped for cash.
I wish I had more pictures of the adventure it was getting it into our house, but that would have meant less helping. First we had to get it from the school auditorium to the parking lot. My friend Eric arrived and spoke the two most beautiful words in the English language: Furniture Dolly. Yes, please! Getting it into the truck was an uphill battle, using an old door that George had to create a ramp. Then we had to drive home and hope it wouldn't bounce out of the truck or crash over. I think that was the hardest part of the whole experience for George! We puttered along Soquel Ave all the way from Seascape to home at 25 mph. At home, our friends Karah, Arnold and Zoe came to help unload the piano and get it into the house. The three steep steps in the garage turned out to require 5 adults pushing and pulling on the piano, but eventually we did it and it slid into place behind the couch quite nicely -- and up on the bench bounced two little girls right away!
And if you ask very nicely, I can even play you two songs. One is "Hot Cross Buns" and the other is "Charge." You know, like they play at the ballpark.
Hey, I'm getting there!
